Meet Dr Zina Alhilali – Your Guide to Healing and Empowerment.
Hello, I’m Zina Alhilali, professionally known as Dr Zee. With over 20 years of experience as a medical doctor, my journey has taken me from Baghdad, to Jordan, Sweden, and now the United Kingdom. These experiences have shaped my understanding of resilience, empathy, and the human capacity to heal.
Today, I specialise in trauma-informed public speaking and coaching, with a focus on mental health advocacy and personal empowerment. Based in Leicester, I work with individuals, educational institutions, and organisations across the UK to promote awareness, foster emotional wellbeing, and encourage transformation.
My background is as diverse as the countries I’ve lived in. This multicultural experience provides me with a unique insight into diverse cultures, beliefs, and life experiences, enabling me to connect deeply with the people I support.
As a mother and wife, I understand the everyday pressures that come with juggling multiple roles. I draw strength from nature, spirituality, and grounding practices such as:
Jogging to clear my head
Reading for insight and personal growth
Meditation to restore emotional balance
These practices help me stay aligned in my own life and support others in doing the same, particularly women navigating burnout, emotional overload, or personal growth challenges.
Empowering Audiences Through Public Speaking
Public speaking is more than a career, it’s my calling. It’s a space where I share real stories, challenge stigma, and inspire honest reflection. Each talk is built around lived experience and clinical insight, addressing powerful themes such as:
Mental health and trauma awareness
Emotional resilience and personal transformation
The impact of childhood adversity
Healing through storytelling and self-discovery
I recently delivered a TEDx talk titled “Surviving War and Rebellion: A Run for Freedom”, where I shared my personal journey from war-torn Baghdad to building a new life in Sweden. It’s a talk that speaks to strength, survival, and the power of reclaiming your voice
Frequently Asked Questions

I offer trauma-informed public speaking, 1-to-1 coaching, and mental health advocacy, tailored to individuals, schools, charities, and organisations across Leicester and the UK.

You can contact me through the Contact Page or call my Leicester office directly on 0116 467 0053 to check availability.
What makes your talks different?
Each talk is deeply personal, honest, and grounded in both medical training and lived experience. I aim to create safe spaces for reflection and connection, whether I’m speaking to students, professionals, or community groups.
Is your approach similar to Gabor Maté or Bessel van der Kolk’s?
While I deeply respect their work and recognise the science behind trauma healing, my approach is uniquely shaped by my personal experiences, cultural background, and clinical insights. Trauma is universal, but the way we support healing should be deeply human, flexible, and authentic to each practitioner.
